Let Your Story Tell the Truth

“One cannot and must not try to erase the past merely because it does not fit the present.” – Golda Meir

Social media has this ability to allow ourselves to present our lives as perfect. We can choose what story about ourselves we want to tell. Often times we leave out the parts that make us look bad or prevent people from seeing the real us. I am not an advocate of us sharing all of our problems on social media, but I think we have to be more honest with others about what life is really like. If we are dishonest about who we are there are consequences to that. Others have an unrealistic view of life, and that could cause them harm. It also causes harm to ourselves if we are not honest because we paint a false picture of who we are in our minds. I share online because I am proud of the growth I have experienced as a husband, father, photographer and an educator. I like to show the highs and lows of how I have grown as a person, and how I still need to grow. Here are some ways I try to be honest with myself online.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ I ask myself would those closest to me believe what I am writing? If not, then it needs to change.

πŸ‘ I ask would what I am sharing benefit those who read it?

βž• Is what I am writing and posting positive, and could it help someone be a better person.

I took these photos last summer when I visited South Mountain State Park in North Carolina. It is a beautiful park in the southern part of the North Carolina Mountains. My son and I hiked up to the main waterfall. These shots I took right at the stream where there is a fork in the road. These are some of my favorites that I took that day.

Question for those who post: Why do you post online to share your story and content online?

  1. Good and thoughtful post and beautiful photos! πŸ‘ I have posted online to share my growth in my photography as well as share tidbits of inspiration. I’ve also share things I’ve made and how to make them for those that enjoy crafting. And I’ve shared things to do in Florida where I live for those that live here and visit here because I like to be helpful to others I guess:) I am not a β€œbraggy” kind of person and I am sort of shy so sharing things through pics and written word is more comfortable for me. Thanks for sharing!
