Habits I Do While Traveling

“You will never win if you never begin.” – Helen Rowland

My family and I love seeing new places. We try to go to places every chance we get. In my house we all love to travel for different reasons. My favorite reason to travel is to see something new that I haven’t seen before, or I haven’t seen in a while. When we travel there are things that I do in order to capture all of the different things I see on our journey.

💻 I typically web search an area to see what is there, and then have us go to those places. Depending on where we are going, I usually have some stops planned in between.

🌊 If there is a body of water there, my family knows we will be there for a while. I try to sneak some long exposure shots when it is appropriate.

🛑 I will stop at random locations if I see something out of the corner of my eye. I do this a lot on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I try to stop at every scenic view and snap pictures.

These photos that I posted are an example of when I just stop on the side of the road and take pictures. Last August, we visited Cherokee, N.C. The town of Cherokee was established by Native Americans who were able to escape the trail of tears. The city is one of North Carolina’s most popular tourist attractions. It is located near the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We visited here last week while we were camping near Bryson City. On the way into town, we passed the Warrior Motel. I love older signs. To me for some reason, I see them as a work of art. I my opinion, they do not make road side signs like they used to. When we passed it, I told myself that I wanted pictures of the sign before we headed back to our campground. I pulled the truck over on the side of the road, pulled out my 55-200 mm lens, and tried to capture this cool sign the best I could.

When you travel, what are some habits that you do in order to make your experience better?
