Day Trips in the Fall – Throwback Thursday

“There is more pleasure in loving than in being beloved.” – Thomas Fuller

I love taking trips to the mountains in the fall. Every fall we try to take at least one day trip to the North Carolina Mountains at least once. It can be tricky this time of the year for me because at work this is my busiest time of the year. I am an elementary school teacher. This is the time of the year I am getting to know my students, preparing everything for a successful school year, and having my annual conferences with parents. Weekend trips are usually out of the question because 3-day weekends are rare this time of the year. We usually pick a Saturday or Sunday, get up early, and take a trip to the mountains. I try to make my way to the Blue Ridge Parkway at least once.

I took these photos last fall when we visited McGalliard Falls. The falls are located just minutes away from downtown Valdese, North Carolina. We love visiting here because the falls are a short walk from the parking lot. The park features a spectacular 45- foot waterfall and the historic Meytre Grist Mill. These were some of my favorite photos I took on this trip last fall. We spent the morning apple picking, and then I looked for some great waterfalls nearby to check out. This was a great little stop on the way to Hickory for lunch.
