“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”- Eleanor Roosevelt

Finishing a long hike feels like an accomplishment and exhaustion all at once. While my idea of a long hike versus others might differ, there is a feeling of pride that I went there, and I have the photos to prove it.

My idea of a long hike is typically accomplished in half a day. The older I get, the more I enjoy these longer walks out in nature. It might be to see a waterfall or a great view, or if I am lucky, both.

This year I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to take a few hikes this year to places I have never been before. From seeing the beauty of Big Bear Falls at South Mountain State Park to seeing the top of Linville Gorge.

For the last few years, I have wanted to visit Crowders Mountain. It is about 30 to 40 minutes from Charlotte. It’s easy to get to from I-85. I wanted to go last year, but I was teaching summer school. Since I wasn’t working this summer, I decided to look for an opportunity to go. One day last summer, the weather was perfect. I loaded up my camera bag, and my son and I hiked to the spot called the King’s Pinnacle.
