Make It Better

“To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.” – Henry David Thoreau

Too often we allow our circumstances and what happens during our day to control us. We let the external affect our internal. Instead of trying to control our circumstances we allow our circumstances to control us. We have to put ourselves in a position where we can adapt to what is happening around us as opposed to reacting. I’ll give a photography example. I love riding my bike around Charlotte and taking photos. Most days I go out the weather is great, and I am able to take advantage of the sunshine. However, there are days I go out and the weather isn’t cooperating the way I would like it to. It doesn’t have to rain to ruin a good day of photography. It might only take a few clouds to take away all of the great opportunities for taking pictures. On days like that, I take out my GoPro and make videos of my travels for that day. If I don’t like anything I capture that day, then I take advantage of the bike ride by clearing my thoughts.

I took these photos on the first day of our cruise on the Carnival Sunshine we took on spring break. We paid a little extra so we were able to arrive at our room early, dropped off our bags, and went up to the deck to enjoy the beauty of Charleston Harbour. I brought my camera with me as a carry on so I could take photos before the ship departed. Here are a few photos I took of Charleston, S.C. before we went out to sea.
