Out for the Photos

“Travel becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs.” – Susan Sontag

I have a confession to make. It’s something my wife and kids have been telling me for years, and think about me every time I go visit somewhere. They say I like to go places only to take pictures, and it’s true. There are often times when I visit somewhere that I plan to take the best photos possible. For example, when we went on the cruise during spring break, I made sure that I was on our balcony at sunset with the goal of capturing photos and videos of the sunset. That was my whole plan for that part of the trip. There are times when we are driving somewhere that I plan out our route for places that we can stop at just for me to take some photos. When I ride my bike around Charlotte, I bring my camera with me because you never know what opportunities I might encounter while out riding. Truth is, I travel for the photos.

Marshall Park is a small urban park in Uptown Charlotte. It is frequently used for protests and community gatherings. It’s a great park to just come and hang out, and has a great view of Uptown Charlotte.
