Be Motivated by What You Remember

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” – Confucius

Whenever we are faced with a difficult task, it is easy to give up. We want to quit and try something else that is easier. There have been many times in my career as a teacher that I have wanted to stop. Last school year was one of my most difficult school years as a teacher. The group I was teaching had been deeply affected by the pandemic. They needed a lot of help in academics and social skills. There were many times during the school year where I wanted to give up. The thing that kept me going was remembering how I had stuck with it with past groups, and I was successful. I kept that in the front of my mind, and I kept working with my students up until it was time for them to test. As far as I can tell, this was one of my most successful years as a teacher. If I had stopped trying then my year would not have ended as well as it did. The lesson I learned from last school year was when it gets tough, remember when it was tough before, and how I was able to be successful.

I took these photos on my recent visit to Durham, N.C. My wife and I took a weekend up there while our kids were away at church camp. We visited some great restaurants, stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast, and saw some pretty awesome places. One morning we hiked at West Point by Eno. The Eno River runs through the park. We saw a photography museum, a working mill, a waterfall and the Eno River. It was a fun place to check out even though it was super humid.
