Get the Shot

“A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.” – Saul Bellow

When I am taking photos of different places and scenes, the one thing I don’t see is myself. I’m sure there are times that I look pretty goofy taking photos. Rarely do I stand in the traditional photographer’s pose. I am usually leaning, squatting, and laying in several different directions. I try to get in any pose that I can in order to get the best shot. Take these photos for instance. I was right up to the edge of the embankment, and leaning over the water in order to capture a shot of the waterfall from the bottom.

I took these photos on my recent visit to Durham, N.C. My wife and I took a weekend up there while our kids were away at church camp. We visited some great restaurants, stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast, and saw some pretty awesome places. One morning we hiked at West Point by Eno. The Eno River runs through the park. We saw a photography museum, a working mill, a waterfall and the Eno River. It was a fun place to check out even though it was super humid.
