“I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.” – Douglas Adams
When I first started learning more about photography, I didn’t have the resources back then to buy expensive equipment. My camera came from a pawn shop, my bag from Goodwill, and any new equipment I bought was low end from Amazon. One thing I didn’t have was extra batteries. At the time I couldn’t find any in my price range. The amount of equipment I had was limited back in those days.
Back in 2018, my in-laws paid for my family to go on a cruise out of New Orleans at Christmas time. One of the things I wanted to do with my camera was capture a sunset over the water. I looked up what time sunset would be, and my wife and I headed up to the deck with my camera gear in tow. I pull out my camera, turn it on, and position it to start shooting. The problem is, nothing was happening. It turns out I left my battery in our room on the charger, and I didn’t have an extra. The room was too far away to make it back in time. Fortunately, for me, I had my phone, and I was able to capture this photo with it. For a phone, I think it did a pretty good job. When we got home from the cruise, I used some of my Christmas money to buy a couple of extra batteries for my camera. For my current camera, my Nikon D7500, I have four batteries for it, and I make sure I have an extra one charged in my bag at all times.
