“The secret of joy in work is contained in one word — excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.” –Pearl Buck

At work I have noticed there are two types of people, those who are good with technology and those who are not. Those who do not often have one thing in common, they don’t like working with technology. I get it, sometimes using certain apps and programs can mean a lot of steps in order to use effectively. Also, we change programs often too, and it seems like right when you learn how to use something the rug is pulled out from under with you having to learn something new all over again. Those of us who are good at using technology typically like working with it. We enjoy learning about all of the new features and seeing the different ways we can use technology to make our job better.

I used the example of working with technology to show how sometimes what is missing from someone excelling in something is the joy in doing. Too often we do not find joy in what we do, and that tends to hold us back from being successful at it. The one thing excellence lacks is enjoyment. You have to love it to do better at it. This week, find something you want to do better, and try and bring some enjoyment to it.

I took these photos while riding my bike a few weeks ago in Uptown Charlotte. One place I often stop to take pictures at is at Marshall Park. Marshall Park is a small urban park in Charlotte near the government center and county courthouse. This small park has a great view of Uptown and many great water features that are awesome for picture taking.
