“The Remembrance of the good done those we have loved is the only consolation when we have lost them.” – Demoustier

I look at years based off of the school calendar. When I think of years, I usually don’t think of just 2022, but I think of the 2022-2023 school year. For me life revolves around the school calendar. The end of the year to me is June, and the beginning is August. The time in between those months is bliss. I know some people think of the year in terms of the fiscal year which begins and ends in October, so I know I am not the only person that does this.

I reflected on that because the 2022-2023 school year was a tough time for me personally. While the work side of things actually went pretty well, I had a lot going on that became overwhelming at times. From getting Covid to having close family pass away unexpectedly, it was a lot to handle last year. I missed more time at work last year than any other school year. Typically, I might miss a couple of days, but last year I missed over 10 days. Writing sub plans was something I didn’t enjoy at all, but it had to be done.

Last spring, I decided to plant a rose garden in honor of those we lost that we were close to. From her grandfather to my step-dad, we wanted to have something at the house to remember them by. My wife bought a wind chime to go in the middle of it. The rose garden actually did really good this year. It started off shorter than the wind chimes, but it just keeps growing and blooming since this spring. I think we should do something positive to remember those we lost. I remind myself of the good times, and how they helped shape me into the man I am today.
