“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” – John C. Maxwell
Have you ever wanted to try something, and it seems like you never have the opportunity to? What is it? For me, a couple of weeks ago, I was able to try something for the first time with my photography that I have been waiting to do for a couple of years now. I took my first long exposure landscape shot. To keep the shot from being over exposed, I used an adjustable ND filter. It took a few tries to get it right. The first time I did it, even with the lens, it was so bright that it looked like a super nova was exploding in front of me. I adjusted my lens and the timing, and it did so much better.

For those of you who are not photography people, you might be wondering why I would take the time to do this. The biggest difference I noticed was the depth of the shot. It’s like the mountains can be seen much further back, and it brings out more of the details of the shot. It takes not only a few minutes to set everything up, it also takes several seconds to capture the photo, and the camera cannot move at all. If the camera moves, then you have what is called shutter shake, and the shot would have turned out blurry. Even though where we were at had a lot of people, everyone was very respectful and gave me my space.

I took this shot at Jump Off Rock near Hendersonville, North Carolina. I was looking for a good place with a great view and easy access, and this was it. It does have a few hiking trails nearby if you are interested.
