“One that would have the fruit must climb the tree.” – Thomas Fuller

Everyone wants the reward without the work. A problem I see today is so many people want the reward without the work. I see it in my students more than anything. They want the grade without completing the work to get the grade. I don’t blame them for this habit, they learned from someone else. My job is to break them of that habit. Whenever a student tells me thank you for the grade I am giving them, I tell them I didn’t give it to them, they earned it. I try to change the mindset of you are given a grade by your teacher to you earned the grade your teacher wrote down. It’s this shift of mindset that helps students learn that with hard work they can be successful. It allows them to see the potential within themselves for great things.

Photography can be hard work. It is more than just standing somewhere and snapping a photo. That is only a small part of the work. Before I go out and take photos, I check the weather. That can determine if I go out or not, and if I go out, what equipment I need. Then I go to my destination. Then I walk around looking for the best perspective or view that I can find, and then I take the photo. After that I go through all of the photos, adjusting the light and trying to make them look the best that I can before I present them. Rarely do I snap a photo and post it right away.

I took these photos last September one Saturday morning while I was out riding my bike. I checked the weather, I saw it would be great, and I headed out. These photos are of one of my favorite spots in the city of Charlotte, Marshall Park. Marshall Park is a small urban park in Uptown Charlotte located near the government buildings. This park features a pond, a small gathering area, and a great view of Uptown Charlotte.
