“It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.” – Jim Rohn

For the last several weeks, I have been teaching my 5th graders about weather in science. They learned a couple of things during that unit. One, there are a lot of factors that determines our weather. Two, you have no control over the weather. It might rain one day, and then be clear the next. We have not control over that. What we do have control over is how we respond to it. In photography, we always want the perfect day for taking photos. Clear skies, plenty of natural light, and no rain. That doesn’t always happen. When I took my trip up to the mountains, it rainned all day. I saw it was coming, and thought about cancelling it, but in the end I went because I knew I wouldn’t get another opportunity this year. Even though it was raining, I was still able to get some fantastic photos. I might not be able to control the weather, but I can always find a way to take advantage of what I have.

I took these photos on a recent bike ride to Marshall Park in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The weather was perfect that day, and I was able to get some pretty great photos there.
