Abandoned

“Hope never abandons you, you abandon it.” – George Weinberg

I have always been fascinated by abonded buildings and houses. What draws me in is the potential story behind what happened. What causes someone or a group of people to leave a piece of property forever? How long has it been since this property was abnadoned? What has happened there since it was left behind? These questions always run through my mind as I walk around with my camera in hand capturing it. I try to come up with a story in mind. I could easily Google it, but that takes the mystery away from it. For me, it’s the mystery that adds to the beauty of the photos of it.

In the summer of 2022, the family and I went on vacation near Bryson City, North Carolina near the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. We spent the day in Cherokee, went river tubing, had coffee and dessert in Bryson City, and just spent a week hanging out with each other as a family. While we were driving back and forth to our campground, we noticed this run-down house on the side of the road. On our last afternoon there, I took a short hike up the side of the road in order to take photos of it
