When Hiking Got Me in Trouble – Throwback Thursday 2021

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose.” – Robert Byrne

I love to hike and check out different trails. One thing I love about North Carolina, is that I am only a few hours away from some of the best places to hike and explore in the United States in my opinion. Charlotte is pretty close to the mountains. Most of the photos that I have posted of the mountains were taken on day trips that the family and I took. We usually leave early in the morning and come back early in the evening.

The photos that I am posting from this particular day trip was one where I got in some trouble with the family. I usually plan where we go a couple of days in advance. I web searched different waterfalls on the way to Asheville. I learned about Catawba Falls, and I thought we would want to check it out. I saw that it was only a mile and a half to get to the falls, and I thought to myself that it wouldn’t be a problem because I walk that much at work on a daily basis. There is a difference between a work mile and a half and a mountain mile and a half. About 3/4’s the way there, my wife and daughter turned around and told me they couldn’t do it anymore. My son and I finished the trail, and took a few minutes and checked out the falls. Now when I plan for hikes for all of us, I make sure the final destination is a little closer to the car.
