Step Away

“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” – Aristotle Onassis

We all need a moment to step away. As a teacher, my busiest time of the year is the fall. Specifically from the end of August to November. I typically have the most to do during those months. From establishing classroom routines and knowing what my students need to be success. However, my busiest time of the year is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I love fall. I love it when the leaves change and the tempuratures cool off. I try to at least once a year make a day trip up to the mountains. A day to pull away from the city gives me an opportunity to clear my head and focus on what’s next.

Last fall, my son and I took a day trip up to Curtis Creek. Curtis Creek is located near Old Fort, North Carolina in the mountains. What I love about Curtis Creek is I can see all of these great views from the side of the road. You can see a lot of them straight from your car. The gravel road eventually leads all the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you take a left, you can see Mt. Mitchell, and if you take a right, you can visit Marion, North Carolina.
