Typically I post about photography on my blog, but today I decided to share a little bit more about my work as a teacher.
I believe that all teachers bring an assortment of talents and gifts to the table when they enter the classroom. We shouldn’t hide these gifts behind a fake personality that will only hold us back from our full potential as teachers. Here are 5 ways I share my skills.

📸Photography📸
If you didn’t know this about me already, I love to take pictures. I will often bring my camera to school events to document them, giving my co-workers and parents something to remember it by.

🍔Grilling🍔
I have always enjoyed grilling, but I started to get better at it during Covid because the restaurants were closed. Last school year, I grilled over 90 5th graders on field day. This was our way of celebrating them for the hard work they had done in elementary school.

🧠Content Knowledge🧠
I have taught for over 12 years with half of those being in 5th grade. I have a pretty good idea of what students need to know by the end of the year. I don’t just keep the knowledge to myself. This summer I am on the science curriculum writing team. I am writing lessons that will impact hundreds of students in my district. This gives me a good opportunity to be creative and share what I know.

😱Opportunties😱
I don’t think there is anything wrong with sharing the mistakes I have made over the last 12 years. From getting the stages of the water cycle mixed up while being observed to being a disaster at classroom management my first year. I share these stories often to let everyone know that we can all grow from where we started.

5. 😋My Personality😋
I have to be honest with you, being serious all the time is boring. There is no fun in hiding my true personality. I find it easier to be myself while I teach. I also get excited for days I can just have fun with my students. I’m one of the few teachers out there that gets excited for field day because I see it as a day of fun.
These are just a few of the ways I share my skills in the classroom. Let me know what ways in the comments that you help your community.
