Learn From History

“History is a vast early warning system.” – Norman Cousins

Whenever we hear about how we should learn from history, the first thought we have is we should break out the old history book and learn more about the origins of World War 2. Sometimes we need to focus on our own personal history. The older I get the more that I learn that what happened to me in the past is informing me about how I should respond to a situation happening now. My experience has become my guide. Some of the expereince I have is either from personal decisions or learning from the decisions from other. Take a moment, appreciate your history and use it to help understand how life is today.

One way I use my personal history to be better is by applying all of what I have learned about photography over the years. I have been serious about taking photos sense 2017. In that time I have been learned a lot about exposure, framing, and timing in order to get the best photo possible. I looking at photos I took years ago of a location, and comparing photos I have taken recently of that same location now. A few weeks ago, my wife and visited someone we had not been in several years, Greenville, S.C. Our kids were out of town, so we decided to take a and enjoy each other. We visited a plant shop, a coffee shop, and a few other stores. One place I loved checking out was the Falls Park on the Reedy. Greenville has a massive waterfall that runs through the middle of town.

I took these photos right when we started walking along the river. This park has some great views, and it’s a wonderful place to hang out even if it’s hot outside.
