“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” – William James

Here we are, the school year has begun again. This is my 13th first day of school as a teacher. While there are some things that are the same, there are some things that are different. The first day of school is typically one of the most hectic. From making sure students know how they are getting home to connecting with them. I normally also start teaching on the first day because there is so much students need to learn before the end of the year. Some things are different every year. A new set of students, new teammates, and new goals that I want to accomplish by the end of the year. I like the quote above because it can be a long school year. I don’t see my work pay off until the end of the year. I see signs of progress along the way, but you don’t know until the end. There can be days when it feels like nothing is working. I try to remind myself that I am making a difference along the way.

I took these photos a few years ago when my wife and I visited Mount Mitchell in the North Carolina Mountains. It is located right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and they say on a clear day you can see Charlotte from the top.

Below is a post I did on Instagram a while back where I shared what I was up to this summer.
