“The aim of education is the knowledge, not of facts, but of values.” – William Inge

The longer I am a teacher, the longer I realize that one of the biggest lessons I teach my students is to learn the value of long-term consequences. Most young children only think about the moment, but I try to do as a teacher is show them how decisions now affect their lives later. From the little things like having a pencil ready for class to larger issues like can cause them to get suspended from school. One thing I am teaching students all the time is how an action today can affect their tomorrow.

I took these photos on my last bike ride around Uptown Charlotte. I have been to Romare Bearden Park on many occasions, and I have looked at this statue a few times. However, most times when I have seen it the lighting hasn’t worked, and I couldn’t get a good shot of it. This last time I went the light was perfect. I took advantage and snapped a few photos of it. If you want to learn more about what the statue represents, swipe to the last photo for details.
