“A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.” – Saul Bellow

I always like being surprised when I visit places. Sometimes you wonder if somewhere is going to be worth the visit, and you don’t realize that it is until you get there. There are times when I have just taken a chance to go somewhere, and then be completely surprised when I arrive. There are other places I have visited before, and I have been disappointed. That’s the risk you take when visiting somewhere new.

A few years ago, my family and I were camping near the North Caralina Mountains. My son and I wanted to go somewhere and hike. I found out that South Mountain State Park was near where we were, so we decided to go check it out. We were not disappointed at all. We were able to see two awesome waterfalls, some great trails, and had a great time hanging out with each other. These shots are from the beginning of our hike. We found a small trail near the ranger station that we went to first. Then we walked down to the Jacob Fork River, and checked it out for a moment before heading out to the main trail. This is one park I would love to visit again.

Here is a video I took of this same area.
