Practicing in the Streets

“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” – Plato

One area of photography that I have been wanting to get better at is street photography. I typically get nervous doing it because I don’t know how someone will react if I take their photo. I’m sure most people won’t notice, but I have that fear that someone is going to run after me and break my camera. I have taken a few shots before, but I wasn’t able to get any good ones until a few weekends ago.

A few weeks ago, I finally was able to ride my bike around Uptown Charlotte. I haven’t been able to ride for almost a month because I’ve been busy with work. I took my traditional trip to the Uptown Farmers Market, and I decided to head up to First Ward Park to take some shots of Uptown Charlotte. When I arrived, I saw a large gathering of people there. It turns out the @meckdems were hosting a “Unite for Our Rights Rally and March” encouraging people to get out and vote in the next election. I decided to take some photos capturing the event. I had a great time doing it, and no one seemed to mind me out there with my camera. Maybe it’s because they thought I might have been a press photographer or something like that. Overall, it was a peaceful event filled with passionate speeches and people unified for one cause.

Check the video I posted of all the places I visited on that day.
