Saturday Tradition

“Quality is everyone’s responsibility.” – W. Edwards Deming

During Covid I realized that I wasn’t doing enough to take care of myself as a teacher. I would burn the candle at both ends. I would stay up late working almost everything evening. I would rarely have time for myself or family during the week. The sad part is, it’s not like working all of those late hours made me a better teacher. In fact, it was the opposite. I was tired all the time. While we were all stuck at home at the beginning of the pandemic, I understood that I needed to set aside time for rest and family. I started to carve out certain days during the week where I wouldn’t do anything work related from home. That was a game changer for me. While I would prefer to not work at home at all, being in education doesn’t allow for that at times. Having those days where I don’t do any work related activities has not only helped me invest more in mt family, it has also made me a better teacher.

When Covid closed all of the gyms, I started to ride my bike around Charlotte. Now I try to ride at least once a week. I don’t look at my phone at all, and I bring my camera to capture photos of what I see. Saturdays is one of my favorite days to go because I like to visit the @uptownfarmersmarket. Typically, I don’t buy produce, but there are some stands that have some really great sweet treats that I like to enjoy. My rides to the farmers market helps me get focused for the upcoming week, and I get to see different parts of Charlotte that I had missed for years.

Check out this video of some of the things I have discovered while riding my bike in Uptown.
