Show and Tell

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” – John C. Maxwell

Over the last few days, I have been thinking a lot about leadership, and how they relate to sunsets. One thing about leaders is they should be the ones who show the way by actions and words. Took often those in leadership just pick one, and focus on it. What separates a leader from a boss is someone shows others the way. What separates someone who is good at the job from a leader is someone who can show others how to do well. The measure of a leader is not only how effective they are, but how effective people are around them.

When we look at a great sunset, the center piece is the sun, but what’s around is what really brings it out. If the sun just went down, and shifted everything to the night then it wouldn’t mean much to us. If there are too many clouds in its way, it’s like it never happened. Great leaders shine because of those around them, not just them alone. Great sunsets usually have a great backdrop with them, like in the case of these photos that I took over the Atlantic when I was on my last cruise. It wasn’t just the sun that made these great, but the area around them made it great as well. From the clouds surrounding it to the ocean below. What makes a leader great is are those around them added to it or are those around them being held back?
