I know a lot of people like to be home for the holidays, but my family and I prefer to be away from the holidays. When our kids were younger, we preferred to stay home because we knew they wanted to enjoy their presents. When they got older, we decided to go on a cruise at Christmas. We loved it. We didn’t think we would enjoy being away, but in the end we did. It was my first time leaving the country, and we had a great time as a family. Since then, we have spent 4 out of the last 6 Christmas holidays away from home. We have no complaints either. While we don’t have the traditional wake up at home on Christmas moments, we still have a great time as a family.
We traveled in 2020 for Christmas, but leaving the country was not a thing at the time. So, my in-laws rented out a house in Fripp Island, South Carolina for us to spend the week at. While you can’t go swimming at the beach during the winter, hanging out at the beach during the winter is a lot of fun. It’s not crowded, and it is a more peaceful experience. I had a great experience one morning when I decided to photograph the sunrise. The sunrise was amazing, and there are some of the best photos that I have ever taken.
