“If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun.” – Katharine Hepburn

If you haven’t figured it out already, I love to take pictures. If you see me visiting a new place for the first time, you might not see my face that often because it is behind the camera. Sometimes you might see me behind a camera while I am walking around my hometown of Charlotte, N.C. because I like getting the practice before visiting somewhere new.

On rare occasions, you might see me decide to go on the other side of the camera. When I saw this statue in Willemstad, Curaçao, I had to take advantage of it. We visited Willemstad during our cruise over winter break. We first toured the Hato Caves, and then our bus took us to downtown Willemstad. We walked around the city, seeing all of the historical buildings and checking out some of the art in the city. This statue is a larger version of the dolls that are made in Curaçao. Artist Serena Israel moved to Curaçao from Germany. She realized there were not a lot of opportunities for women, so she began to teach them how to make these dolls to give them an opportunity to have an income.
I need to give proper credit to who took this photo for me. My wife volunteered to take it for me.

I took this video the day before we arrived to Willemstad.
