Looking for Opportunities

“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

One bad thing about social media is we don’t view the accounts we see online as actual people. There are bot accounts out there designed to pose as people. Sometimes, we know there are actual people behind the screen. We talk to people online in a way that we wouldn’t ever speak to anyone in public. People also create fake accounts with the goal of being cruel to others. Screens cause us to forget there is a human being on the other side. We fail to see the consequences of what we are doing. When you say something to someone in public, you can see their facial expressions. Seeing how someone reacts to something causes you to pause and think. For some people, it doesn’t matter. Yet, many of us will consider what we are saying. We see the effects of our words on other people. We don’t have the opportunity online to see how others feel when we say things. Think about how you would feel if it was said to you. If there is a human being behind the screen, take an opportunity to be kind.

One way that I like to be kind to others is to share positive thoughts online. I also share some of the photos that I have taken. I took these photos last December when the family and I had just boarded our cruise ship leaving Tampa. As the sun was setting, you see the city of Tampa in the background. It was the first of many beautiful sunsets I saw on the cruise.

Here is a sunset I captured on video.
