“There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Butterflies are amazing creatures. Most species only live for a few weeks at time, but still manage to travel a great distance over time. When it comes to making change in our lives, we often think that we must make grand changes. We do this because we believe it is necessary to move ahead. We often praise people for making dramatic changes in their lives. We are amazed at how different they are now. They make sudden changes either in their diet, lifestyle or work life. We look from afar thinking that we want to be where they are. I made a huge diet change over 10 years ago. I lost a lot of weight. It didn’t stick because I put myself on a plan. I couldn’t stick with it long term. Later, I gave up sugar in my drinks. I switched to primarily stevia. It took time to get used to stevia. Now, if I have a soda with sugar, it gives me a massive headache. This happens because I’m not used to it. Making changes takes time. Instead of trying to make a huge change at once, make little changes one step at a time.

We visited the sanctuary in the Dominican Republic last winter. As we toured the space, we learned information about butterflies, and their efforts to conserve them. This is just one example of the many photos I took while we were there.

Another great part of our trip was when we snorkeling in the British Virgin Islands. Here is a video I took while there.
