Everyone is an Expert

“Everybody knows how to raise children, except the people who have them.” – P. J. O’Rourke

I saw the quote above this morning, and I couldn’t help but to laugh. It reminded me of when my wife and I first had kids. Everyone we knew who did not have kids suddenly seemed like experts in raising kids. I heard countless times, people saying, “well I won’t do that when I have kids.” Or they would say, “this is how I would do it.” The funny part is that when they had kids, they did not follow their own advice. I experience this as a teacher to. Everyone outside of education is trying to tell me how to be a better teacher. Sad part is, they have no idea what happens inside a classroom or even a school for that matter. Even with my hobby of photography people try to tell me how to do it. From how to make money with it to when should go out and take photos. It seems like everyone is an expert. What I have learned to do is not pay attention to the outside noise, but focus on what I know. Sometimes I try to paint a picture of reality it someone is willing to listen.

I had time to take many photos. My family and I went on a cruise over winter break. I captured these photos right after our ship left the Port of Tampa at sunset. These are some of my favorite shots from the cruise. From the colors of sunset in the sky to the city of Tampa in the background.

This was a video I captured of sunrise during the same trip.
