“Sometimes it’s the detours which turn out to be the fruitful ideas.” – Roger Penrose

I heard this quote on Sunday that stuck out to me. People have traded in fruitfulness for busyness. We think that the more busy we are, the more productive of a life we are leading. I see this as a teacher all the time. I see some of my coworkers come in early and leave late. Then on top of that they will work from home on most days. Seeing this as a badge of honor, thinking they are doing it all for their students. This busy mindset shows dedication, but are they actually being fruitful? I can speak from experience and say no. I used to behave this way. Then I realized I needed days set aside each week that are work free. Not only for myself, but also for my family.

When I first started teaching, I would work during my breaks. I thought it was catch up time. Now I use my breaks for adventures. Last winter break, the family and I took a cruise through the Caribbean. We visited several places that I had never been to before. One of those places was the British Virgin Islands. We visited an island called the Virgin Gorda. We hiked through the caves and did some snorkeling. Here are the photos I captured while snorkeling.

Check out this video I captured while I was on this trip.
Great quote that is worth considering.
