“Success is the sum of small efforts – repeated day in and day out.” – Robert Collier

As a teacher, there is a lot of pressure to be good at everything at once. Teachers are expected to excel at multiple subjects. They need to meet all the needs of diverse learners. Additionally, they have to be fully prepared at all times. It’s a lot. It’s hard for anyone to be perfect on the first day. However, new educators are expected to achieve this level of perfection. I don’t know of many fields that do this, however we have to find ways to support new educators. We want them to grow and be educators for years to come without succumbing to burnout. When new teachers are starting, I try to support them by focusing on priorities first. I also emphasize taking everything one step at a time. You can’t excel at everything simultaneously. Focus on one thing at a time. Build yourself up from there.

One of my favorite places to ride my bike to is Marshall Park in Uptown Charlotte. It has a great view of the city, and it isn’t too far from my house. I took these photos on one of my recent bike rides to Uptown. I wanted to take advantage of the warm weather and sunshine.

Here is a video of the same spot.
