Block the Noise

“Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.” – Unknown

Social media gives everyone a platform to say something. In the quest to go viral, people will say almost anything to get attention. It would be nice if it was just the occasional nut on Facebook. However, many people strive to become the most popular voice on the internet. Often times to be the most popular they become the loudest and the craziest. From politicians to celebrities who are trying to stay relevant, so many are screaming for our attention. It can be difficult to separate the noise from wisdom. For me, it goes back to intent. What is the intent of the person posting? Do they want your life to be better, or are they just trying to get something out of you? That’s the best way I can separate the nonsense from the wisdom.

Sometimes the best way to block the noise is to ignore it. I try to find ways to unplug and get away from social media. From taking walks to riding my bike, those are just some of the ways I unplug. Another way I unplug is by traveling. I love sitting out on the deck when I travel. Watching the sunrise is one of my favorite activities. Last winter break, the family and I took an 11-day cruise around the Caribbean. Our first stop was Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. I spent a few minutes hanging out on deck with my camera and a cup of coffee. This was the perfect way to start the day.

Check out this video I captured that morning.
