“In life, we should explore options outside our comfort zone.” – Dani Alves

I like to things to be done quickly. If there is a problem, I want the solution out there as soon as possible. I typically go with the first thing that comes to mind. While that will seem like it solves the problem quickly, it turns out that solution might not be the best. When solutions are developed, sometimes the next question needs to be what else. I am reading a book about asking effective questions by Michael Bungay Stainer called “The Coaching Habit: Say Less, Ask More & Change the Way You Lead Forever”. Here is a quote from it, “Options are good. The power of “And what else?” is that it’s the quickest and easiest way to uncover and create new possibilities.” Instead of wanting the problem solved now, look for another solution. That other solution could be the best one yet.

When I think of options for photography, I consider what spot has the best view. I always want to capture as much of a scene as I can. Take these shots of the sunset I captured back on a cruise we took in 2023. This was our first experience with a balcony view, and I didn’t want to miss any of it. I would spend most evenings and mornings right on that balcony on the ship.

Check out this video of another sunset that I captured.
