“Nothing can be done except little by little.” – Charles Baudelaire

When it comes to growth and goals, we all want the microwave effect. We want it to happen instantly. We live in a culture now, where waiting is becoming rarer by the day. I remember when a new movie was released to rent. You had to go to the video store and hope they had it. Now, just open an app on your TV and rent it instantly. Order an item online, and it used to take weeks to arrive. Now it could be on your doorstep in a matter of hours. While modern conveniences are great for getting a new shirt, they rarely happen in personal development. It takes time to become a better person. It takes small steps and time.

Most of the things I think about and reflect on I relate to my passions: teaching or photography. When I travel I take a lot of pictures. On my last trip, I took almost 500 photos. I never post all 500 in one day either. It’s hard to appreciate something when it’s all dumped on you at once. I choose a few photos at a time to share and post. Sometimes I get them all shared within a year, and other times I don’t. Take this set for example, I captured them in 2023. We were taking cruise around the Bahamas. I captured some shots of the ocean on a clear and beautiful day. If I posted these all at once, then you might not have ever noticed them. Same with personal growth. If it happens all at once, you don’t appreciate the small steps you took along the way. The journey is where the growth happens.

Here is another view of the ocean in the Bahamas.
