“We aim above the mark to hit the mark.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

One of the things I decided to do this year was to change up my photography. I started getting serious about photography when I bought my first DSLR camera back in 2017. It was a Nikon D3200. I captured some great photos with my camera. Most of the photos would be considered landscape photography. Most of the photos I have posted on social media are landscape photography. I realize this when I look back at them. From sunsets to waterfalls, I typically capture the same things. This year I decided that I wanted to do something different with my photography. I wasn’t too sure what I was going to do, but I needed to change it up. I was out riding my bike in January. It was a warm winter day. I didn’t see anything worth taking a photo of. I stood in one spot, and started taking photos of the people walking by where I was standing. It was at that moment, I realized I enjoyed doing street photography. I feel awkward when I do it. I know not everyone wants their photo taken. I try to make an effort to be as discreet as possible. Sometimes it works, and other times I get mean looks. Taking photos of people on the street has been one way that I have stretched myself with my photography this year.

I have been making more of an effort with my photography. One method is to take every shot more carefully. One advantage of a digital camera is that you can just snap away, and then hope for the best. My focus with my landscape photos now is to take every frame seriously. I take my time more when I capture photos when I can. I captured this sunset after we had visited Willemstad, Curaçao. We spent the day walking through caves, taking a walking tour of the arts district, and sampling some of the local cuisine. During sunset, I walked around the lower part of the cruise ship. I had my camera in my hand. I found a good spot to stand, and I captured these photos of the sunset. While the sun isn’t visible in these shots, the colors still fill the sky with the clouds in the background.
