“Our happiness depends on wisdom all the way.” – Sophocles

I heard a phrase a few days ago that stuck out to me, “Waiting is Life.” That might be the best description of life ever. We spend a lot of our lives waiting, and it is something as a society we struggle with. We don’t like waiting. We want it done now, or we believe it should already be over. When we wait, that is where our best growth happens. Patience goes a long way. The wait is what brings the growth.

Sometimes, I have to wait during the year before I can go out. I have to wait to take photos of a new place. I look back at photos from some months, and I see that I didn’t take any photos that month. Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate. Other times I’m just too busy to get out. There are times where I can only take photos around Charlotte because we are not traveling at that time. I could just be a photographer who only takes photos while traveling. Alternatively, I can take the time at home and practice. I have learned more about photography while practicing at home than I have on any trip. Practicing at home allows me to try new tricks and ideas. There’s no pressure of messing up a shot that I might never be able to capture again.

This is the magnolia tree at the Arrowhead Inn Bed and Breakfast in Durham, North Carolina. This is the magnolia tree that is in the front. For these photos, I simply pointed my camera up to see what I would get. I love magnolia trees, even if they are a little messy. They are amazing because they bloom most of the year, and they stay green all year round. I love how the black and white version of these turned out. They bring out the details more.
