Neighborhood Walks

“People only see what they are prepared to see.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I have a lot of goals this summer. One of those goals is to make sure I stay healthy. During the school year, my watch says I walk more than 10,000 steps on a normal school day. Accomplishing that many steps during the summer takes work. I had already started walking in the afternoons after dinner. Now I try to get my steps in by walking around my neighborhood in the mornings when I can. It used to be that there wasn’t much in my neighborhood. In the last few years, we have had a lot of different developments and places built around us. Walking around the neighborhood is a much better experience than it used to be. When I walk, typically my phone stays in my pocket. If I walk by myself, I listen to instrumental music. When I walk with my wife or family, we don’t look at phones and just connect with one another. Another goal I have this summer is to unplug when I can.

When I take my walks, I have two goals, fitness and photography. Of course, I’m going to bring my camera with me because you never know what you are going to see. Lately, I have been practicing street photography by taking photos of the random people I come across. This has made my adventures with my camera more interesting. While I am walking by the same places every time, I am seeing different people each time. I captured these photos one morning while I was out walking in my neighborhood.

In the video below, I talk more about why I take walks around the neighborhood.
