“We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” – John Dryden

All habits take time to form. We like to think that bad habits just happen overnight, but we made them over time. It might be easier to form bad habits because it seem like something we enjoy doing in the moment. One habit I have been working on this summer is cutting back on foods that are not healthy for me. One of my favorites is potato chips. I love a good bag of salty chips. My problem is they taste so good that I want to keep going. I decided to replace the chips with something better. Instead of chips in the evenings I have rice and almond crackers. Do they taste as good as chips, not really. Add some cheese to them, and they are pretty good. Instead of dipping chips in french onion dip, I dip celery and cucumbers. I still get a crunch. When bad habits form, we can’t just get rid of them overnight. We have to replace them with something good.

One habit that I love is photography. It’s my way of expressing myself. I love capturing photos, editing the photos, and writing about the photos. I captured these shots while I was riding my bike around Freedom Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. Freedom Park is not took far from my house. I like to ride my bike here, cruise around the lake, and just hang out here taking photos.
