Sunset in Loso

“The essential conditions of everything you do must be choice, love, passion.” – Nadia Boulanger

It’s easy to put the wrong thing on repeat. Too often, we allow a failure to be what sticks out in our minds as opposed to our success. This happens to me in photography all the time. Out of 100 shots, there are sometimes 2 that didn’t turn out. From getting the settings wrong, to having it be out of focus. This really bothers me when I take a shot of family. It also bothers me when it’s a place I might never see again. Instead of thinking about the hundreds of great photos, I let the one stick out in my mind. I teach 5th grade. Among all my students, there’s always one I wish I could have reached. I have to remember the success I have had in teaching. I have helped many students over the last few years. In photography, I look back at the thousands of great photos I have captured over the years. I look at those on repeat and see some of the great shots I have taken.

Even when I am at home, I practice my photography. One of my favorite ways to practice is by walking around my neighborhood in the evenings. I am very fortunate to live near some walkable places in Charlotte. That was not always the case. There has been a lot of development in my area. We now have many places to check out. Believe it or not, Charlotte has some pretty awesome sunsets. I captured this last summer while taking a walk near the Phat Burrito. Even when I’m in the city, I can still catch a great view.
