Life Changes Since Sunrise

“It is not length of life, but depth of life.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Looking back at these photos, I realize a lot has changed in my life since I took them. It’s crazy how much can happen in 9 months. I captured these photos on the morning of January 1st. While 9 months might not seem that long compared to the over 400 months, I have been alive. Several events can happen. In the life of my family, I see my kids maturing and getting closer to being adults. I got promoted at work this year. I now have more leadership responsibilities that extend outside of my classroom. I even traveled to Alaska this year. I visited the West Coast of the United States for the first time. I was also able to check out Canada. A lot can happen in a year. Rarely does it look like what we think it will.

During my winter break last year, my family and I took a cruise around the Caribbean. We stayed up late on New Year’s Eve to celebrate as a family. As soon as midnight hit, we went to bed. For some reason, I woke up before sunrise on New Year’s Day. I grabbed my camera, picked up a cup of coffee, and headed toward the top deck to watch the sunrise. Waking up early paid off because I was able to see and capture this amazing view.
