Old Buildings, New Additions

“Zeal will do more than knowledge.” – William Hazlitt

Something that Charlotte, N.C. is missing is old buildings. Most of the old buildings in Charlotte have been torn down and replaced with something new. Everywhere you turn, you either see a wrecking crew tearing down an old building, or you see a construction crew building something new in its place. I get why we need new developments. We have a lot of people moving to Charlotte, and all of them need a place to live. While I am not a fan of the increased traffic, I am a fan of the improvements that come with it. When we first moved here, there were no grocery stores near us. I would either have to go to the Family Dollar or drive to get to a store. Now we have a few stores close to us. We even have more restaurants and some great coffee shops within walking distance of our house. I love the changes, but I hate that many of the old structures around Charlotte have been torn down in the process.

Willemstad, Curaçao is a beautiful city. It is a place filled with an amazing coastline, amazing art, and beautiful beaches. One thing that makes the city unique is how they built around the fort that was built on the island hundreds of years ago to protect it. Instead of tearing down the structure, they are building in around it. The fort that we walked around when we visited had been converted into a shopping mall. I appreciate how they preserved and used the structure. I also got a great cup of coffee there.
