“The actions of men are the best interpreters of their thoughts.” – James Joyce

We like to tell ourselves what the worst-case scenario would be. We tell ourselves that we are being prepared or being realistic. Sometimes we tell ourselves things about ourselves that are not true. We focus on the negative and hardest parts to change about ourselves. We put those things on repeat. Instead of saying them one time, we say them over and over again to ourselves. As a math teacher, I hear it all the time about math. Many of my students cannot stand math. It either comes from having a hard time in math in the past, or they had a bad experience in math. I try to change what is on repeat for my students. Instead of having them say they don’t like math, I try to look for parts of math they do like and go from there. Oftentimes, students don’t like math because they don’t see how it works. I will lean on visuals in class to show them how math works. That’s what we have to do with our negative thoughts on repeat. Have a visual of something positive about yourself. It can be a Post-it note on the mirror with a reminder, or a photo on your phone’s lock screen. Anything to put on repeat has to be what is good about your life.

One thing that I enjoy doing is taking photos. I love walking around and just capturing whatever I see with my camera. This is one of my favorite things to do. I love looking back at photos I have captured in the past to serve as a reminder of the good times, and that I can take good photos. I captured these photos while my wife and I were spending the morning at Camp North End near Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. We captured photos of ourselves and of each other. I also just used my camera to capture as many photos as I could capturing the murals and the different places there.
