Know Who You Are

“I know not age, nor weariness nor defeat.” – Rose Kennedy

I am currently reading a book about how to improve mathematics instruction in the classroom. And yes, I am reading this book for fun. My favorite types of books to read are ones where I learn more about how to make myself a better person. I also enjoy reading to learn new information. One of my favorite books that I read recently was about how our brains impact human behavior. One thing I read about in the math book I am reading talks about metacognition. One of the things the author focuses on is if we know who we are, and how we function then we are more able to learn. I can apply this idea to my students by helping them know their strengths and weaknesses. I can become a better teacher, father, husband and man by knowing what my strengths and weaknesses are. That way I can develop my strengths and improve my weaknesses.

One area I have been working to improve is my photography. While it is only a hobby for me, I still want to be better at it. This way I can capture the special moments in my life even better. One place that I got some good practice in was Skagway, Alaska. The family and I rode on the Great White Pass Express when we took a trip there over the summer. We saw some amazing sights on this train ride. I don’t know how many photos I captured while here, but I captured a lot of great shots.
