Old Buildings

“It is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it well.” – Rene Descartes

I love old buildings. It seems like when we used to build things, details were important. The goal wasn’t to build something as fast as possible, but to make sure it was done right. I am all about progress, but sometimes progress needs to slow down in order to get it right. We rush to get something finished, yet we don’t take the time to appreciate the process. When we are doing a task or meeting a goal, getting there is where we achieve our growth. We often think the goal is the growth, but the process is where the growth comes from. Don’t rush to get to a finished target, but appreciate the process for what it is.

Last winter, the family and I took a cruise during winter break. While we were there, we had a stop in the Dominican Republic. We took an open-air bus tour around the port, checked out a butterfly sanctuary, watched a wood carving demonstration, and had lunch at a plantation. While we were traveling to our different stops, I had my camera out the entire time. Here are some shots of an old fort that we saw while on our journey.
