What Do We Look For

“If you do not conquer self, you will be conquered by self.” – Napoleon Hill

People travel for different reasons. With the holidays coming up, the most common reason will be for going to see friends and family. I remember when we lived in Kentucky. The wife and I took some long drives just to see family at Christmas or Thanksgiving. I rarely got both because of where I was working at the time. Sometimes we travel to just get away to somewhere familiar. We do this sometimes. We take day trips to the mountains. We might also go to some small town in North Carolina. We do this just to hang out for the day. Sometimes we travel for an experience like a football game or a concert. I remember taking trips to Atlanta with my dad as a kid. We would go to see the pro baseball team the Atlanta Braves play. Other times we travel to see somewhere new. That’s why we took an 11-day cruise to Alaska last summer. We had never experienced or seen anything like it before. The trip can be for a combination of reasons. What we look for in a destination is determined by our purpose of the trip.

One thing I look for when we take a trip is for somewhere to take photos at. In Alaska, just about everywhere is a great photo opportunity to take photos. One of the stops on our cruise was Skagway. Skagway is one of the few places in Alaska that is connected to the great 48 states. Most places in Alaska, you can only access by boat or plane. Skagway can be reached by driving through Canada. We had tickets to ride the Great White Pass Railway later that afternoon, and spent the morning walking around downtown. I captured these photos of downtown Skagway using my lens from @retropiacam. This lens is made from recycled disposable cameras. It gives a captured-by-film look, and it is easy to use. The lens doesn’t focus, so all you have to do is snap away.
