The First Time

“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual.” – Henry David Thoreau

Have you ever been to place that you thought you would only see on someone’s social media feed? A place that felt so far away that you knew you could never make it there. A place that you wanted to see, but settled for what was easier. Do you remember what it was like when you saw that place for the first time? When you saw that place that you thought you would never see, how did you feel? What it a sense of awe that just filled you up, or was it shock that you had made it? This is why I love to travel. I love to see new places that I didn’t think I would ever make it to. When I see them, it’s unbelievable to me that I am there.

I remember our first stop during our cruise around Alaska last summer. I remember just standing outside my balcony, and staring at the landscape in the distance. The huge mountains that dotted the shore that felt close, but were really far away. They felt close because these mountains are huge. I captured these photos while we were approaching Juneau, Alaska’s capitol city. If we wanted to visited Juneau another way, we would have to fly in because no roads lead to Juneau. As our ship approached the port, my excitement grew. I knew this was only the beginning of an amazing trip.
