Share the Truth

“As writers, we owe it to those who might read us to seek truth, no matter how messy or awkward.” – Thomas C. Foster

Our society has a problem with the truth. This is not a new problem, but it is becoming worse. We do not like the truth if it doesn’t match what we prefer. In political life in the United States, we avoid truths that disagree with our preferred party. Whether it’s about a leader’s physical health or data showing an economy in trouble, we dismiss it. If it doesn’t match what we want to hear, we ignore it. We only agree with voices that say what we want to hear. We dislike the truth in our personal lives. We ignore areas where we need to improve. The truth is important. In the current book I am reading, “How to Write Like a Writer” by Thomas C. Foster, he emphasizes how important the truth is to a writer. To me, anyone who writes online, on social media, or for personal pleasure is a writer. As writers, we have an obligation to be honest with our audience—not only honest about ourselves and our experiences, but also about the information we share with the outside world. We shouldn’t be writing content with the goal of getting clicks, but to share our honest truth with the world.

I post photos of the different places I have been. I always share the experiences that happened to me while I was there. I also share information that I learned about a particular place. Sharing the experience helps me remember it better. It also gives me an opportunity to open up to the world. If you looked at these images separately, you would think they were taken on different days in different places. They were taken at the same place on the same day. I captured these photos during our visit to the Hubbard Glacier last summer. We were on a cruise around the Inside Passage of Alaska. The landscape of every part of the location is unique, from waterfalls cascading off mountains in the distance to icebergs floating in the water. This was one of the most amazing places I had ever visited.
