Gaining Perspective

“The whole point of getting things done is knowing what to leave undone.” – Oswald Chambers

I think we could all use the benefit of a broader perspective. It feels like most people today are stuck in their own views. We get a view, and we stick to it. Social media has only seeing people who we agree with in our feeds. We tend to watch news channels or read news websites where they only see your own ideas. We spend most of our time with people we agree with. We are scared to bring up topics that could lead to disagreement. We have to move past this my way or move own idea. For me personally, I do that in two ways. One is by reading. Reading opens up your mind to new ideas and perspectives. Even if you share a lot of the same ideas as the author, it still opens your mind up. Even if you read fiction, it still creates new pathways in your brain ready to receive new ideas. The other way I do this travel. Our goal is to visit places that are not familiar to us. We see things and have experiences that open our eyes to the world around us. There is so much to experience out there and no need to say closed off from the world.

One place that opened my eyes to how amazing the world is Alaska. Alaska is called the last frontier for a reason. There is nothing by wide open spaces for miles and miles. The landscape is some of the most beautiful that I have ever seen before. One place where I got to see the beauty of Alaska was in Skagway. There we rode the White Pass Scenic Railway. This train ride took us on the same route of the Alaskan Gold Rush of 1896. The train tracks were put in when the path could go no further into the mountains. The weather was perfect that day. We were treated to some of the most incredible views I had ever seen. I took over 200 photos while we were on the train. I spent most of my time standing on the platform enjoying the amazing views.
