Laugh a Little

“The most wasted day of all is that on which we have not laughed.” – Nicolas Chamfort

When I first started teaching I tried to copy the style of other great teachers that I knew. I thought that if I copied what they were doing, then it would work for me. I kept trying to mimic them, and it never worked out. It wasn’t until 2020, that I decided to lean in more to my own personality. During the times where I was teaching over Zoom, I took that time to reflect on myself as educator. It wasn’t easy teaching back then, but it was a good time to learn how to be better. I found out that I wasn’t leaning into my strengths as a person. I kept trying to be someone else. I decided I should teach more like me. Some people tell me that I have a sense of humor. So I decided to use that more in my classroom. One way I do that is I tell a joke to see who is paying attention in my classroom. If I hear some laughs I know I got them, if not it’s time to get their attention again.

Thinking of funny birds, it reminds me of visiting an aviary. You see all of the birds flying every where together. Some land on you to get a snack, and others just hang out in the distance. Every bird is different, and has it’s own unique features. I visited an aviary during winter break. My family and I went to Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida. We had a fun filled day from visiting with the Flamingos to snorkeling with sharks and sting rays. These are just a few of the photos I captured while hanging out in the aviary.
